British passenger, 71, dies of suspected heart attack during flight from London to Portugal, forcing emergency landing in Spain

A British passenger has died of a suspected heart attack on a TAP Air Portugal flight from London to Lisbon.

The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing at Santiago de Compostela Airport in Spain’s northwestern Galicia region after the man was found to be unconscious.

Staff at the airport notified the emergency services and paramedics were dispatched to the scene before the plane touched down.

After the flight landed, the medical staff tried to revive the man, but their efforts were in vain and he was pronounced dead at around 9.30pm on Friday.

His initials were given as I. S. Y. and he was 71 years old. 

No further details about him were reported.
