Two killed when single-engine plane crashes in Broomfield neighborhood

Two people were killed Sunday when a plane crashed in Broomfield, according to North Metro Fire Rescue District.

The single-engine plane went down at about 11:50 a.m. in the Anthem Ranch neighborhood in northern Broomfield, near Lowell Boulevard and Las Brisas Drive, police said. Two people died; no one else was hurt and no homes were damaged, according to the fire department.

The crash site is just south of Erie Municipal Airport, although North Metro Fire spokeswoman Sara Farris could not say whether the plane was leaving from or arriving at that airport when it went down. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash.

Farris said the two victims were dead when first responders arrived, and that there was no “active fire” around the plane but that fire crews sprayed down the area as a precaution.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the crash, Farris said.

“This is unfortunately the second fatal plane crash we’ve had in Broomfield in the last two weeks,” Farris said. “It’s just a real loss for our community.”
