Kate’s first Christmas gift to the Queen ‘could have gone horribly wrong’
Kate Middleton has revealed that her first Christmas gift for the Queen “could have gone horribly wrong”.
Speaking in a documentary to mark Her Majesty’s 90th birthday, the Duchess of Cambridge revealed the sweet homemade present she gave to the Queen in 2011.
While Kate was excited to celebrate her first Christmas at Sandringham, the thought of finding a gift for the Monarch was keeping her on her toes, the Daily Express reports.
She said: “I can remember being at Sandringham, for the first time, at Christmas. And I was worried what to give the Queen as her Christmas present. I was thinking, 'Gosh, what should I give her?'
"I thought back to what I would give my own grandparents. And I thought, 'I'll make her something,' which could have gone horribly wrong. But I decided to make my granny's recipe for chutney.
"I was slightly worried about it, but I noticed the next day that it was on the table.
“I think such a simple gesture went such a long way for me and I've noticed since she's done that on lots of occasions and I think it just shows her thoughtfulness, really, and her care in looking after everybody."
Members of the Royal Family exchange their presents on Christmas Eve as per their German routes and there is reportedly one rule when it comes to presents – the cheaper and cheekier the better.

The Queen is all set to enjoy a ‘new normal’ Christmas this year – and may even appear in public for the first time since early autumn, after receiving the go-ahead from her doctors.
However, the annual private pre-festive season party will take place at Windsor Castle and not Buckingham Palace, where it has traditionally been held for several decades.
