An airline passenger who refused to swap seats with a mother separated from her toddler daughter on a flight from Japan, admitted they had no qualms in turning her request down.

Commenting on a Reddit thread where others shared their "irritation" about being asked to change seats by fellow flyers, the anonymous user said that the mum had requested they move so she could be beside her child for the plane journey.

Rather than feel sympathy over the fact that the young girl was not sat with her mum, the person in question couldn’t believe the “audacity” of the woman in expecting her fellow traveller to give up a window seat to be put in the middle of the row behind, reports the Mirror.

The traveller wrote on Reddit: “Had a woman ask me to change on a TPAC flight from Japan. I was bulkhead window and her toddler daughter was in the middle next to me while she was in the middle seat in the row behind.

“She asked me – and just me – to switch with her so she could have my window seat (next to her daughter) and I’d take her middle seat.

“Hell to the f**k no. Not my problem they didn’t book together. Worse is we were surrounded by others from her tour group that she could’ve asked for a three-way trade instead. Or the tour operator. The audacity to ask just me and expect an inferior trade on my side.”

They added: “The combination of a sleeping pill and the fact that she was very well behaved made it a very pleasant trip. The mother made a nuisance of herself a bit, likely as punishment for me not moving. But once the pill kicked in it was smooth sailing.”

Following their confession, the traveller received a lot of support, with one social media user writing: “The allocation of seats for other people is not your problem.

"They had the same opportunities to book and allocate seats like every other passenger so if they fail to do so then it is their responsibility and no one else’s.”

Another added: “If you can't afford to pay extra for your desire seat, then don’t ask others to swap. Accept what you paid for. That's entitlement, using kids to get what you want. And also, don't get mad when they decline your request.”
