Happy St George’s Day! Today we celebrate the patron saint of England who died on April 23 in 303 AD.

It’s a national day, but no bank holiday sadly, celebrating all things English – and what better way to celebrate than with a trip to the pub?

Pubs up and down the country will no doubt be busy, with lockdown restrictions starting to ease.

Luckily, it means that pubs will have their beer gardens open so you can still celebrate.

Earlier in the month Daily Star shared 25 of Britain’s best pubs as part of our Great British Booze Off series.

The series was launched to celebrate the UK's finest drinking establishments as they start to reopen thanks to lockdown being eased.

You can nominate your local in our competition to find the best pubs in this form:

Here are some of the best pubs where you can celebrate everything English on St George’s Day:

Young’s Pub Gardens, London

With 144 beer gardens open, complete with heaters, stretch tents and al fresco burger shacks, you are bound to find one to celebrate in if you live in or around London.

Young’s all-weather outside spaces come complete with heaters and stretch tent coverings, so whatever the weather you will be fine.

The Farrier, London

If you find yourself in London, why not head down to The Farrier, Camden Market in London’s first ever pub?

Featuring a hidden courtyard, outdoor heating, and fire pit it’s the perfect place for someone looking for a cold beverage.

You can also grab a bite to eat, from indulgent fast foot to lighter bites and street food.

The East Lancashire Railway (ELR), Bury, Lancashire

The Trackside and Buffer Stop pubs at the East Lancashire Railway are finally open, and they are the perfect attraction to celebrate to celebrate a day like St George's Day.

They are trackside to heritage site railway East Lancashire Railway – a perfect place to toast England’s great industrial achievements.

The Trackside at Bury Bolton Street Station and Buffer Stops at Rawtenstall Station opening hours can be found online here: The Trackside and Buffer Stops.

The Churchillian, Portsmouth

The Churchillian in Portsmouth has recently reopened after a £280,000 investment during lockdown.

With a new outdoor bar and re-designed garden, it’s the perfect place to celebrate St George’s Day al fresco.

Situated on top of Portsdown Hill at 120 metres high, it is the perfect spot to enjoy the most spectacular views across Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight and Hayling Island.

The Dundas Arms, Hungerford, Berkshire

Take a break from the chaos of the city life to celebrate St George’s Day in the English countryside.

Situated in a charming market town, this is the perfect spot to relax when the sun comes out – which we’re hoping it will for St George’s Day!

Rose & Crown at Munday Bois, Kent

A proper British family run country pub in the heart of Pluckily, a village in the Guinness Book of records known to be one of the most haunted in Britain.

Dogs are welcome, and it’s a great place to celebrate after a long countryside walk.

You can also enjoy a hearty afternoon lunch served by the warm and friendly staff.

The Bridewell, Liverpool

Once a Victorian police station, The Bridewell isn’t your average pub.

The Grade II listed building, which is tucked away in the Ropewalks area of the city, dates back to the mid 19th century.

The cells of the Bridewell are still used as seating areas, you'll see pieces of history on the walls.

A historic building which is the perfect place to celebrate St George’s Day!
