A beauty pageant turned ugly as a mass brawl broke out between revellers at the after-party.

The carnage was captured on video at the celebration of Angelia Gunasekara being crowned the winner of New York City’s first-ever Miss Sri Lanka beauty pageant on Friday, October 21 between guests.

A melee seemed to erupt between drunken revelled at the party at The Vanderbilt in South Beach, Staten Island with footage showing one tiara-wearing woman appearing to be caught in the fray.

The footage, which was shot from a distance, shows an argument heating up before people started shoving each other.

Several people were seen trying to play peacekeeper amid increasing screaming to no avail.

Before long, several men and women were trading blows as shrieks were heard from spectators and those trying to separate the fight.

At least two men climb atop other guys on the floor and start hurling punches as more people try to stop the violence.

People are seen darting from the party in the aftermath, but some guests stayed to try and go for another round.

It’s not clear what sparked the argument, but pageant organiser, Sujani Fernando, has confirmed that none of the contestants was involved.

All 14 beauty queens were inside the building as the scuffle went down outside the venue.

The first-of-its-kind pageant looked to raise money for a Sri Lankan hospital amid economic turmoil in the nation, drawing more than 300 guests.

But now, members of the public have responded in outrage at the now-viral clip as they now fear there won't be another and that it may have damaged the careers of the contestants.

One critic said: "First ever and last. What a disgrace."

Chandra Muniweera, another organiser said: “We thought we had a very nice and a very good pageant, but unfortunately, this incident happened.

“They’re building stories from those few videos, but they don’t understand the damage they’re doing to these 14 girls who were not involved in the fight.

“I just feel so bad for the girls because people should let them enjoy the moment, enjoy their victory because they put in so much time.”

The New York Police Department claims no calls or reports were made in relation to the fight.
