Woman with world’s longest name has two-foot-long birth certificate

A woman with the world’s longest name – consisting of 1,019 letters – has a birth certificate that is two feet long.

Sandra Williams, from the US state of Texas, decided to give her daughter – who was born in 1984 – a unique name.

So, on September 12, when the little girl was born, she decided to name her, Rhoshandiatellyneshiaunneveshenk Koyaanisquatsiuth Williams on her birth certificate.

However, three weeks later she decided it simply wasn't long enough, so she filed an amendment to change the name and made it 1,019 letters long, while also adding a 36-letter middle name, the Daily Mirror reports.

After the change, her name became Rhoshandiatellyneshiaunneveshenkescianneshaimondrischlyndasaccarna erenquellenendrasamecashaunettethalemeicoleshiwhalhinive'onchelleca undenesheaalausondrilynnejeanetrimyranaekuesaundrilynnezekeriakenv aunetradevonneyavondalatarneskcaevontaepreonkeinesceellaviavelzad awnefriendsettajessicannelesciajoyvaelloydietteyvettesparklenesceaund rieaquenttaekatilyaevea'shauwneoraliaevaekizzieshiyjuanewandaleccian nereneitheliapreciousnesceverroneccaloveliatyronevekacarrionnehenriet taescecleonpatrarutheliacharsalynnmeokcamonaeloiesalynnecsiannemer ciadellesciaustillaparissalondonveshadenequamonecaalexetiozetiaquani aenglaundneshiafrancethosharomeshaunnehawaineakowethauandavern ellchishankcarlinaaddoneillesciachristondrafawndrealaotrelleoctavionne miariasarahtashabnequckagailenaxeteshiataharadaponsadeloriakoentesc acraigneckadellanierstellavonnemyiatangoneshiadianacorvettinagodtaw ndrashirlenescekilokoneyasharrontannamyantoniaaquinettesequioadauri lessiaquatandamerceddiamaebellecescajamesauwnneltomecapolotyoaj ohnyaetheodoradilcyana.

Understandably, that isn't the catchiest of names for day-to-day use, so her friends and family just call her Jamie.

Speaking to Oprah back in 1997 when Jamie was 12, her mum explained her decision to give her such a long name.

She said: "I had to do something to break a Guinness World Record. I had to make sure that her name was going to be unique.

"I didn't want her name to be like anybody else’s. Her name had to be different and I had to be in the Guinness book.”

It took her six years to come up with the name idea, which is a combination of movies, cars and relatives.

But teaching it to Jamie was a bit of a struggle, having to record the name on a tape and play it to her repeatedly.

Despite the logistical issues, Jamie loves her unusual name, explaining that the fame it's brought her means she gets to travel and miss school.

After the incident, Texas changed its law so a child could only be given a name that fit within the 'name' box on the birth certificate form.

The Guinness World Record for the longest surname on record dates back to 1914, with Hubert Blaine going through life with a 747-letter surname.
