Waitrose is launching its first ever lunchtime meal deal to help families battle the cost-of-living crisis.
The supermarket’s customers can now get sandwich, wrap, salad or sushi, as well as a snack and drink for £5.
MyWaitrose loyalty card members who bring their own reusable cup can also get a free cup of coffee when they purchase the meal deal.
Several grocers in Britain, including Sainsbury’s, Asda and Tesco, already offer meal deals, however the Waitrose deal is a bit pricier than its rivals.
Shoppers can get a sandwich, drink and side at Sainsbury’s and Tesco for just £3.50 and £3.90, respectively. Asda offers a three-for-two deal, meaning the price of its lunchtime offer ranges from £3 to £5 depending on what items are selected.

Jennifer Moscardini, a food-to-go buyer at Waitrose, told the newspaper that the supermarket’s customers ‘want new flavours’.
‘We’re always innovating to keep up with food trends,’ she said. ‘This week we’ve introduced a great vegan BLT sandwich for people who want to eat less meat, or none at all.’
Statistics published last month from sandwich-maker Greencore revealed that more than half the sandwiches sold by UK supermarkets are bought as part of meal deals.
Ms Moscardini also said that sandwich sales at Waitrose are up 40 per cent since 2020, The Sun reported.

She attributed the increase in sales to the fact that Britons are ‘working in offices again’ and ‘travelling more’. She also alleged the UK is full of ‘sandwich-lovers’.
‘This lunchtime deal means our customers can get a great quality sandwich, wrap, salad or sushi, along with a snack and a drink for £5,’ she added.
It also comes after Waitrose’s executive director James Bailey said the the grocery store wanted to grow its convenience offering after sales fell 3 per cent in the year to the of January.
