Thousands of A-level students hit the town to celebrate results
Getting ready for university! Thousands of A-level students hit the town to celebrate or commiserate their exam results in nationwide party
Thousands of sixth-form students hit the pubs and clubs of Britain last night to celebrate their A-Level results.
Photographs showed the 18-year-olds partying hard last night and into the early hours of this morning in Birmingham at the city’s nightlife hotspot of Broad Street, with many clubs selling out of pre-booked tickets
Revellers in the West Midlands were seen being helped by their friends while other students looked to have partied harder as they sat on the ground and one man was arrested before being led to an awaiting police van.
Some of the partygoers became a little worse for wear as they were sick on the pavement, but many others had a great night out. Pryzm Nightclub, which can hold 2,500 people, said it sold out of tickets booked in advance.
It comes after figures revealed the proportion of A-level entries awarded an A grade or higher has fallen to the lowest for more than a decade, as girls narrowly clawed back the lead from boys in terms of A* and A grades.
Boys however still outperformed their female classmates in the highest result – and, for the first time, there were more entries for A-level science subjects from girls than from boys.
The shift comes after a push in recent years to encourage girls to study science and maths-based subjects. Spanish has become the most popular foreign language at A-level, overtaking French for the first time.
