The best taproom in Denver: Bruz Off Fax is my favorite patio near Cheesman Park

I’m almost embarrassed to admit that it took me three years to discover my favorite brewery in Colorado had a location just a few blocks from my apartment. I’m blaming the pandemic on that oversight but I’m here to share the secrets of the best taproom downtown.

Bruz Beers is known for brewing Belgian-style beers at its main location in Midtown at 67th Avenue and Pecos Street. But in 2019 the owners opened a second location in the heart of Denver. Bruz Off Fax is, well, just off Colfax Avenue and only a few blocks from Cheesman Park.

The vibes are immaculate. The deals are suburb. And the variety of seating makes it perfect for any occasion.

The bar seats are cozy and intimate, set up in a darker corner on the tasting room. It’s perfect for a quiet pint after a long day. In contrast, the indoor tables are spacious and surrounded by big windows — ideal for a happy hour hang with your friends. And the patio is dog-friendly and surrounded by other businesses that share the space, making it feel like you’re far removed from the chaos on Colfax. If you can snag a shady spot, it’s a great place to enjoy a good book and a cold beer on a summer afternoon.

The beers are delicious and often unique. Dame Blanche is my favorite to start (it’s a 5.5% ABV wheat beer spiced with orange peel and coriander). But the seasonal Drenched Peaches (a 7.8% saison fermented on Palisade peaches) just screams summer in Colorado.

Due to its BYOF (bring your own food) nature, you can find rotating food trucks parked out front on York Street or enjoy a scoop from the neighboring Smith + Canon Ice Cream Co.

If you live in the neighborhood, I recommend walking or scootering over to Bruz Off Fax. After all, the beers are strong: some of the “bigger Belgians” are above 10% ABV.

The daily deals range from $1 4 oz. sidecars with any full-sized draft on Saturdays to $10 flights on Fridays. Plus, the space hosts trivia on Wednesdays and live music on Saturday nights.

If you go: Bruz Off Fax is located at 1495 York St. #101, Denver. bruzbeers.com The original location, Bruz Beers, is at 1675 W. 67th Avenue #100 Denver.
