Teaching assistant romped with three pupils including one who got her pregnant

A teaching assistant has been jailed for having sex with three of her students in Texas, US.

Ashlyn Faye Bell, 24, claimed it was the boys who pursued her and that she didn’t know sex with her students was wrong.

One of them made her pregnant during the romps at her home in New Boston, a court heard.

She pleaded guilty to two counts of improper relationship between educator and student involving two 17-year-old boys and a single count of sexual assault of a child involving a 16-year-old boy on Tuesday, the Texarkana Gazette reports.

She admitted sexual misconduct with three male high school students and has asked that a jury decide her punishment after they hear key points of the evidence.

The police became involved after a teacher at Texas High School heard students chatting about Bell becoming pregnant, and one of the boys tell the others forcefully that he is “not the daddy”.

The court was told she would go to a truck stop to pick up her teenage lovers from the school after work in 2019, and often had sex in the car while her three year old daughter slept in the back of the car.

Other sex romps were at her home.

She worked at the school between August 2019 and May 2020 as an instructional aide.

A jury of 12 women has been chosen to serve in Bell's punishment-only trial where she faces two to 20 years on each count.

The paper says the jury sentenced Bell to four years in prison on one count of sexual assault. On the second count of sexual assault, the jury assessed a 10-year term but recommended probation.

The jury assessed five-year sentences on each of the two counts of improper relationship and recommended probation on each. All that boils down to Bell going to prison to serve a four-year sentence for sexual assault of a child.

The judge can still decide whether further demands will be made of her such as undergoing mental health treatment, sex offender therapy, and electronic monitoring. That will be decided in May.

She is also required to register as a sex offender which effectively bans her from the classroom.

The paper reported Bell even testified she didn't know that Texarkana Independent School District policy prohibited staff other than teachers from having sex with students despite passing with flying colours a new-employee test that covered exactly that.

She also claimed they were all 18 at the time, which is still prohibited by law as teaching staff have authority over students.

First Assistant District Attorney Kelley Crisp pointed out in her closing remarks Thursday that the victims "look like kids," were not driving and were sneaking out of their homes at night to meet Bell, the paper reports.

She had also told the boys she could get into trouble for having sex with them.

Her own lawyer Bruce Condit told the hearing the boys were "victors" rather than victims.

It will be about two years before Texas parole officials may consider Bell for release, the paper reports.
