Startled man comes home to find hungry bear munching on his leftover KFC bucket

A hungry bear was hilariously spotted dunking his face deep into a KFC bucket inside a man's house.

John Holden had the shock of a lifetime when he saw his wild neighbour helping themselves to his fried chicken leftovers on his kitchen worktop.

John who lives in Sierra Madre, California says that by the time he returned home only one beast was still tucking into the fast food but he thinks it is likely more bears were lured inside by the smell.

Remarkably the scent of the Colonel's 11 herbs and spices was appealing enough for a bear to force open John's front door to get a taste, the Mirror reports.

Unsurprisingly the intruders left behind a fair bit of mess for John to clear up afterwards, which is why he believes it was not just the beast he saw which wandered in.

Quick thinking John managed to reach for his camera phone in the heat of the moment and later shared a video of the unexpected guest munching away on the KFC meal.

He told ABC7 it was the first time a bear had entered his home – although he has had a number of encounters outdoors.

He said: "I've actually had them bump into me a couple times in the backyard, but definitely never in the house like that.

"That was something else and they sure made a mess of the place."

After helping themselves to his food, Mr Holden said the bears remained in his garden for a while.

He finally got them to leave by making loud noises, he told the network.

Bear sightings are increasingly common in parts of California, with one recent instance seeing an animal stroll into an elementary school in San Dimas, LA.

Last month on the other side of the country, authorities were on the lookout for a black bear that attacked a couple after being antagonised by their dog.
