Rishi Sunak’s heiress wife Akshata Murty leads the Tory WAGs at the party’s Manchester conference as she checks out ‘Dishy Rishi’ cards on sale… hours after the PM is challenged over voters viewing him as ‘rich’

Rishi Sunak’s wife Akshata Murty eyed up some ‘Dishy Rishi’ cards on sale as she enjoyed a walkabout on the opening day of the Tory conference.

The 43-year-old met with stallholders as the Conservatives’ annual gathering kicked off in Manchester.

Susie Cleverly, the wife of Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, was also among the political spouses spotted today.

Ms Murty’s appearance at Tory conference came hours after the Prime Minister was challenged over voters’ view of him as ‘rich’.

Mr Sunak and his wife are estimated to be worth around £530million, largely thanks to Ms Murty’s shareholding in her family’s firm Infosys, the Indian IT giant.

Mr Sunak, appearing this morning on the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg show, was quizzed about a word cloud which suggested the main thing the public thought about him was he was ‘rich’.

But the PM pointed to his decisions on easing Net Zero measures – such as the shift away from gas boilers and petrol and diesel cars – as signs he understood the cost-of-living crisis facing Britons.

‘That is a decision which was motivated by me wanting to ease the burden on families,’ he said.

‘And again, I get lots of criticism from people about that, people who could happily afford to rip out that boiler, install incredibly expensive energy efficiency upgrades in their rural home that’s off the gas grid, or change their car sooner than is necessary.

‘It might be fine for them to do all those things. I don’t think it’s right, I don’t think it’s necessary.

‘I want to save families £5-, £10-, £15-, £20,000. That’s why I made the decision I did.’

As Ms Murty looked around the various stalls at the Manchester conference complex, she spotted greeting cards which featured the ‘Dishy Rishi’ moniker given to her husband.

Other cards also featured illustrations of the Sunak family’s pet dog, Nova, outside Downing Street alongside Larry the cat, the Government’s chief mouser.
