A small aircraft crashed in Malaysia’s Selangor state with eight people on board on Thursday, killing at least nine people, the country’s civil aviation authority said.

The plane nosedived onto the tarmac in the town of Elmina in Shah Alam, Selangor province, shortly before 3pm local time after departing from the holiday island of Langkawi.

Shocking video of the aftermath of the crash showed the plane, a Beechcraft Model 390, billowing black smoke after it veered off the road and onto the nearby grass verge.

Shah Alam district police chief Mohamad Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed that all the passengers on the plane had perished but couldn’t give further details.

Another police officer, who declined to be named as he isn’t authorised to speak to the media, said that at least nine bodies have been found.

Eyewitnesses said the ninth victim was a motorcyclist who was killed when his bike was hit by debris from the plane crash.

Disturbing photographs from the scene showed how the plane partially had partially disintegrated after the brutal impact, with the charred wreckage of the stricken motorcycle pictured lying in the street.
