Prince Harry’s brutal ‘swipe’ at William and Charles over ‘fit the mould’ jibe

Prince Harry took a "backhanded swipe" at his brother and father's marriages, a royal expert claimed.

In the first episode of the new Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, Duke of Sussex said he chose to marry Meghan Markle "with his heart" and suggested other members of the Firm have historically picked partners "with their head", picking wives that "fit the mould".

Harry said: "I think for so many people in the family, especially obviously the men, there can be a temptation or an urge to marry somebody who would fit the mould as opposed to somebody who perhaps you are destined to be with.

"The difference between making a decision with your head or your heart."

Commentators were quick to pick up on the alleged slight, with royal author and journalist Robert Jobson saying his father and brother "wouldn't agree" that their choice of wives were purely practical.

Jobson tweeted: "Prince Harry says men in the royal family marry women who 'fit the mould' whereas his was a true love story.

"Backhanded swipe at his father, The King and his brother, Prince William. Not sure that they would agree."

And fans agreed that King and Queen Consort and William and Kate Middleton are every bit as in love as Harry and Meghan.

"I think that [William and Catherine] have more than proven that they married for love," one wrote. "You don't date someone for a decade if you don't love them deeply!"

Another replied, adding: "As have [Charles and Camilla]."

A third said: "What a ‘mean girl’ swipe to say about Princess Kate. Awful."

Harry also came under fire after making a comparison between himself and his late mother when describing his romance with Meghan.

"My mother [Princess Diana] certainly made all of her decisions with her heart, and I am my mother’s son," he added.

The frequent mentions of the People's Princess also set tongues wagging after the first three episodes of the documentary series were released today (December 8).

In the documentary, Harry said: “So much of what Meghan is and how she is, is so similar to my mum.

"She has the same compassion, she has the same empathy, she has the same confidence. She has this warmth about her.”

But fans were left reeling by the comparisons, with one writing: "Dear Harry, Meghan Markle is NOT Princess Diana. Sincerely, the world."

But others disagreed, with one Twitter user countering: "The similarities between Princess Diana and Meghan Markle are so hard to ignore. The Royals belittling them, the courtiers sabotaging them, the jealousy, the media harassment, Diana wanting to move to the US.

"The only difference is that Meghan’s husband actually wants to protect her."
