Prince Harry fans have hit back over a 'petty' decision that saw his HRH title removed from a plaque.

They criticised the Royal Collection Trust's decision to remove his title from small labels placed next to his mother's dresses that are on display for a summer exhibition.

Fans branded the move "petty" when the labels pointed out that Prince Harry had "kindly" lent the dresses to the exhibition at Kensington Palace.

Princess Diana's wedding dress and her wedding day going-away outfit were both loaned to Kensington Palace for this summer's 'Royal Style in the Making' showcase.

Both Prince William and Harry lent the dresses to the palace and small labels next to the exhibits were positioned to acknowledge this.

However, in what was described as an "'administrative error' by the Royal Collection Trust, Prince Harry's name also included the title HRH, an address which the Royal family agreed he would no longer use after moving to America.

A spokesman for the Royal Collection Trust at the time said: "Due to an administrative error, for which the Royal Collection Trust was responsible, the labels were incorrect and will be updated".

The labels have now been changed and read: “Lent by HRH the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex,” reports The Mirror.

Supporters and fans of Prince Harry showed their displeasure at the move by posting on Twitter and social media.

"Lol. These people's pettiness is so predictable at this point. They’re just casting tiny pebbles at a yacht that has long sailed out of eyesight," posted one Harry advocate.

Another clearly peeved fan wrote: "They’re petty and the world is watching."

While one clever thinking supporter wrote: "Oh what a lovely bunch. Now, what if Harry got petty and refused to loan the dress?"

Others however backed the move, pointing out that the Royal Collection Trust were just carrying what was agreed.

One person commented: "Not petty at all. It was agreed that they would not use it."

The two dresses included in the show are Diana's ivory taffeta and lace wedding gown, designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, and her wedding day going-away outfit, a peach skirt suit by Bellville Sassoon.

The exhibition, which runs until January 2, also looks at designers who dressed the Queen, Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother.

The Queen made the decision to strip Harry and Meghan Markle of their HRH titles last year, following their move across the Atlantic.

The Sussexes were told they would receive no public funds for royal duties with the Duke forced to give up his military appointments.
