Prince Harry and Meghan ‘aren’t likely to attend’ major US event over royal feud

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might be refused an invitation to this year's Met Gala thanks to their falling out with the royal family.

The annual fundraising gala, organised by Vogue chief Anna Wintour, is one of "Hollywood's most prestigious red carpet event", but it is thought the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could be snubbed at this year's function.

Jordan James, CEO of Unlockd PR, told the Express: "It certainly wouldn't come as a major surprise if they were snubbed given their current status within the royal family and the ensuing drama."

James said even if the Sussexes do manage to get an invite to the biggest event in the celebrity calendar, they're likely to reject it.

"They aren't likely to attend as they will undoubtedly face scrutiny, no matter how hard they may try to minimise fallout – especially with how close this event is to the Royal Coronation," he said.

Previously, the ex-royal duo had been tipped to be on the guest list for the elaborate celebrity do for the first time and many were expecting them to make their Met Gala debut after stepping down from royal duties in 2023.

The pair had reportedly hoped to cement their status as A-list public figures, with Royally Us podcast hosts Christine Ross and Christina Garibaldi saying the pair would likely appear on a number of coveted guest lists this year.

But with the Met Gala scheduled for just five days before King Charles' historic coronation on May 6, it seems the couple may now be giving the event a miss.

And the coronation itself has reportedly been causing drama between Harry and Meghan and the rest of the royals already.

The pair have been invited to the ceremony, but an insider claims the couple are causing "chaos" due to their "demands".

An insider told the Express discussions over whether the couple will appear on Buckingham Palace's famous balcony have been "tense", with the America-based couple supposedly wanting to stand side-by-side with senior members of the Firm.

"Once the procession reaches the Palace, the King will take to the balcony and wave at the crowds with the rest of the royal family members and their children," an insider previously told the publication.

"This is where Harry and Meghan have requested inclusion."

The balcony appearance is usually reserved for working royals, as was the case at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee last summer, when Harry and Meghan were involved in several key celebrations but didn't join their royal relatives for that particular moment.

Archie's birthday also falls on the weekend of the coronation, the insider added, and the Sussexes could ask for the occasion to be marked somehow, whether that be with a special lunch or a drinks reception.
