Power outage causing delays at Denver International Airport

A power outage at Denver International Airport on Wednesday afternoon is causing flight delays, airport officials tweeted.

“At this time, we do not have a number of flights impacted,” Mindy Crane, an airport spokesperson, told The Denver Post via email.

The Federal Aviation Authority issued a “ground stop”, which means flights in the air can land at DIA, but the flights that haven’t left yet “will be held at their destination until further notice and very few if any departures will occur until further notice,” Crane said.

Trains to the gates and security are still operating, and travelers are being encouraged to check with airlines for their current flight status.

“Power is being restored in various areas of the locations as we speak, but we don’t have an ETA for full power restoration,” Crane said, adding that DIA staff are working with Xcel Energy to resolve the issue.
