Palace slams claims Prince Charles was royal who questioned Archie’s skin colour

Prince Charles' aides have slammed claims he speculated about Archie's skin tone as "fiction".

Earlier this year, Meghan Markle made the bombshell revelation that someone within the Royal Family asked about the complexion of her and Harry's children.

The allegation made during the couple's Oprah Winfrey interview, left Prince William having to assure a reporter "we are very much not a racist family".

In new book, Brothers And Wives: Inside The Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan, Royal biographer Christopher Andersen quotes a source claiming Prince Charles is the unnamed royal behind the comments.

However when put to the future monarch, a spokesperson replied: "This is fiction and not worth further comment."

According to Andersen's source the Prince of Wales told wife, Camilla on Novermber 27 2017: "I wonder what the children will look like?"

The apparently well-placed insider described Camilla as being "somewhat taken aback" before responding: "Well, absolutely gorgeous I'm certain."

But not satisfied he made his query clear, Charles reportedly added in a lower tone: "I mean, what do you think their children's complexion might be?"

Author Andersen includes the insider's claims in his book set for release on Tuesday, but according to Page Six, stops short at supporting it.

In Harry and Meghan's explosive March broadcast, the Duchess said there were “concerns and conversations about how dark [their baby's] skin might be when he was born … Those were conversations that family had with Harry.”

The couple refused to name the relative who made the remarks.

Instead of accusing Charles, Andersen suggests his innocent curiosity was spun into a racist remark by scheming courtiers who relayed it to the Sussexes out of context.

Andersen says others within the Palace could be fairly accused as speculating over the same subject with far more prejudice.

High-level advisers known as the 'Men in Grey' gossiped about how the royals would "look to the rest of the world" with mixed race members, the author writes.

Andersen adds: "The question posed by Charles was being echoed in a less innocent way throughout the halls of Buckingham Palace."

The Daily Star has approached representatives of Prince Charles and the Sussexes for comment.
