Northglenn house fire: One person dead in early-morning blaze

One person was found dead early Thursday morning in a Northglenn house fire, firefighters said.

Just before 1 a.m., firefighters responded to the 11800 block of Keough Drive for a house fire with flames shooting out the front door and heavy, black smoke billowing from the windows of a two-story residence with a basement, according to a North Metro Fire Rescue District news release.

Four adults escaped the fire before firefighters arrived, the release said. Two of them were taken to a local hospital by ambulance. Firefighters found one adult dead inside the home. The fire caused extensive damage to the residence.

“This is a tough day for our community, and our hearts go out to the family as they mourn the loss of their loved one,” said Fire Chief David Ramos, in the release.

The family is being assisted with immediate needs by the city’s victim services division.

The Thornton and Westminster fire departments assisted North Metro in responding to the fire. A Northglenn police officer suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
