Motorist goes up in flames after sparking ciggy while filling up his car

A man looking to enjoy a cigarette in Russia got more than he bargained for when his smoke sent him up in flames.

The motorist from Chelyabinsk, Russia, was filling up his car with petrol when he made the crucial error of exposing a naked flame at a pumping station.

In his panic, he also sent his car up in flames in dramatic CCTV footage from the western-central city.

Prior to the ignition, the man had looked calm and relaxed, and then in the blink of an eye, a huge inferno breaks out.

Dressed in a white t-shirt and shorts, he runs around to the passenger seat of his motor in an attempt to drive away from the heat.

Luckily for him, he does manage to get his car away from the centre of the blaze.

Then he returns to the scene wielding a fire extinguisher in an attempt to put it out.

The footage was originally put up on the social media channel Nexta and has since gone viral with over 265k views at the time of writing.

People on social media have been having a thorough laugh at the man’s expense.

One user on Twitter wrote: “Somebody give that man a Darwin award!”
