Weather forecasters with the Met Office have released a yellow warning this morning. The agency, which tracks weather across the country, has warned people they risk experiencing increasingly heavy rain. Two areas will receive the brunt of the incoming severe forecast.
The Met Office forecast covers London and most of southeast and southwest England up to the midlands.
One warning is for thunderstorms, while the other urges caution in the face of heavy rain.
The thunderstorm warning will last for eight hours in total, from 4am to 12pm.
And its neighbouring torrential rain starts later today, lasting from 4pm to 3am on Thursday.
The thunderstorm warning states people living across England and Wales will have to reckon with near gale force winds and heavy rain accompanied by lightning.
The warning reads: “An area of heavy rain and thunderstorms will move quickly eastwards across Wales and southwestern England into parts of central, southern and eastern England during Wednesday morning.
“Many areas will see a spell of rain whilst some places will be affected by thunderstorms bringing a brief period of heavy rain, lightning, and strong, gusty winds with hail also affecting some spots.
“Gusts will tend to peak at 40 to 50 mph, but whilst very unlikely in any one place, much stronger winds are possible here and there, then potentially damaging some structures.”
That warning is currently in place for the following areas:
- East Midlands
- East of England
- London and South East England
- North West England
- South West England
- Wales
- West Midlands
