Marijuana-themed license plates are up for auction in Colorado

If you wanted your high-country license plate to be even “higher,” now is your chance.

Colorado motorists can buy the rights to marijuana-themed plates.

The Colorado Disability Funding Committee is conducting a license plate auction that ends April 20. Some of the plates are “HEMP,” “GANJA,” “GREEN,” “BONG,” “HASH,” “INDICA” and “TEGRIDY.”

Previous auctions have included the letter “X,” which sold for $20,000, “5280” for $6,800, and “MCLAREN,” for $6,000.

As of Tuesday morning, bids for this year’s plates have ranged from $440 to $6,440.

A governor-appointed committee uses the Colorado Disability Funding Committee’s revenue to fund disability application assistance and new and innovative ideas for improving quality of life and independence for people with disabilities.

The Colorado Disability Funding Committee is already planning a second annual 4/20 auction in 2022, per a state spokesperson.
