Levi Bellfield to marry besotted lover after Yorkshire Ripper played matchmaker
Serial killer Levi Bellfield is set to marry a “besotted” woman that has been visiting him in prison.
The 55-year-old is known to have murdered three young woman and is suspected by police to have been involved in several other unsolved murders and attacks on women dating back to 1980,
He is serving a double life sentence in HM Prison Frankland, in County Durham for the murders of Milly Dowler, Marsha McDonnell and Amélie Delagrange and the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy.
A father to at least 11 children with five women, Bellfield has applied for legal aid to support his bid to marry his new fiancée in jail on human rights grounds.
Prison bosses have reportedly accepted that Bellfield would win the case, and look set to withdraw their objections to the marriage.
New legislation is being brought in to block prisoners serving whole-life terms from marrying in jail, but the laws will be enacted too late to have any impact on Bellfield’s application.
One government source told The Sun: “The sad fact is that — with the way the law stands — there are no grounds to stop him getting married.
“So it will go ahead and they are deciding when to tell Bellfield they are approving the decision.
“It sticks in the craw — but at least it would avoid it going to court.”

Bellfield was introduced to his fiancée through a fellow-lifer, Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe.
The “besotted” woman previously told the Mirror: “He is not a monster. Yes he has a bad past, but 17 years in prison changes a person.
“He has changed, he has remorse, and there are always reasons a person goes wrong in life.
“There is always a far bigger picture. He is 53 years old, still young and has to live knowing he will just grow old and die in that horrendous place”.

Bellfield’s lover added that said she is “not ashamed” of the relationship and admitted that the pair have already shared “kisses and cuddles” in prison.
Detective Sergeant Jo Brunt, who spoke to a number of the killer’s ex-girlfriends, who all described a similar pattern of behaviour when they got involved with him. "He was lovely at first, charming, then completely controlling and evil. They all said the same”.
Detective Chief Inspector Colin Sutton who led the investigation that brought Bellfield to justice, said: "When we started dealing with him he came across as very jokey, like he's your best mate. But he's a cunning individual, violent. He can switch from being nice to being nasty, instantly".

Former Justice Secretary Robert Buckland said the upcoming wedding “beggars belief”.
The MP added: “Milly never got to see her wedding day because she was robbed of her life by Bellfield. It cannot be right that he gets to have his.”
The Centre for Crime Crime Prevention called the monster's marriage plans “an insult to the families of Bellfield’s many victims”.
