Mr Biden made another verbal gaffe on Saturday, claiming 350 million Americans have already been vaccinated – 20 million more than the country’s entire population. He may have mistakenly referred to the number of vaccine doses administered in the US, which is almost 350 million. The actual number of fully vaccinated Americans is 166 million, approximately half of the population.

Mistakes during speeches and other public events is a regular occurrence for Mr Biden – he has even referred to himself in the past as “a gaffe machine”.

During his presidential campaign in the buildup to the 2020 US election, these mistakes led to some raising concerns about his age, and whether Mr Biden would be able to fulfil two terms as President.

In December 2019, four anonymous individuals close to Mr Biden told Politico that the candidate wouldn’t run for a second term in 2024.

The aides said that the Democrat wouldn’t publicly announce that he’s considering skipping a second term.

One adviser said: “If Biden is elected, he’s going to be 82 years old in four years and he won’t be running for reelection.”

Mr Biden’s communications director denied the report, saying the candidate and his campaign aren’t discussing this option yet.

Kate Bedingfield tweeted: “Lots of chatter out there on this so just want to be crystal clear: this is not a conversation our campaign is having and not something VP Biden is thinking about.”

Mr Biden said in March that he plans to run in 2024 amid speculation his Vice President – Kamala Harris – could take on the reins instead.

He said: “The answer is yes, my plan is to run for re-election. That’s my expectation.

“I’m a great respecter of fate. I’ve never been able to plan three-and-a-half years ahead for certain.”

When asked if he thought he could be running against Donald Trump in 2024, Mr Biden joked he wasn’t sure the GOP would even survive long enough to challenge the Democrats.

He said: “I have no idea. I have no idea if there will be a Republican party. Do you?”

Mr Trump will run in 2024, his former press secretary Sean Spicer claimed.

During a recent Washington Examiner interview, Mr Spicer simply said: “He’s in.”

He added: “A couple of months ago, I wasn’t sure. Now … there needs to be something that will keep him out.”

Mark Meadows, Mr Trump’s former chief of staff, appeared to discuss the former president’s future aspirations in a recent Newsmax interview.

He told The Hill: “We met with several of our Cabinet members tonight … I’m not authorised to speak on behalf of the president, but I can tell you this.

“We wouldn’t be meeting tonight if we weren’t making plans to move forward in a real way, with President Trump at the head of that ticket.”
