Jimmy Savile, BBC star and alleged prolific paedophile, was reportedly like a marriage counsellor to Prince Charles and Diana.

It is understood that Savile would visit Prince Charles’ official London residence multiple times in the 1980s.

The pair reportedly formed a close relationship in the late 1970s after meeting through their work with wheelchair sports charities.

Former royal correspondent Richard Kay claimed Savile was able to "insert himself into their marriage in the way that he was someone who made himself available".

He added: "And Charles liked having him around."

Savile would reportedly turn up uninvited to Kensington Palace where Diana lived and "manage to persuade the police on the gate, who never let anyone in without an invitation, to walk in".

The royal correspondent said Savile would "walk in and drift around Diana's apartment".

Since Savile’s death, to which Prince Charles’ led a round of tributes, several allegations about his concerning behaviour around the royals have surfaced.

Dickie Arbiter, who handled media relations for the Prince and Princess of Wales while being a spokesman for the Queen between 1988 and 2000, claimed Savile would lick the arms of Prince Charles’s female assistants, the Mail reported in 2015.

Arbiter has previously said: "He would walk into the office and do the rounds of the young ladies taking their hands and rubbing his lips all the way up their arms if they were wearing short sleeves.

"If it was summer [and their arms were bare] his bottom lip would curl out and he would run it up their arms."

And he even allegedly attempted to do this to Diana, Princess of Wales, on one occasion.

Richard Kay added: "He licked Princess Diana's hand and she recoiled from that. As she told me, it was something very creepy."

The Prince of Wales spent time with Savile on a number of different occasions – including a private meal with the alleged paedophile in 1999.

Charles also reportedly sent the alleged paedophile a pair of gold cufflinks and a box of cigars on his 80th birthday, The Guardian reported in 2012.

"This is to go some way in thanking you for that."
