Haunting signal young girl gave to escape abduction after man followed her and sister and chased them into a church | The Sun

TWO young sisters escaped an abduction over the weekend by seeking help at a nearby church.

One of the girls, both 12 years old, gave a haunting signal inside a church on Sunday evening after a man followed them home from Cherry’s Bar and Grill in Fishhawk, Tampa.

Deputies in Hillsborough County revealed it was one of the girls who was able to mouth the words "help me" to an adult – resulting in 911 being called, according to Fox 13 Tampa Bay.

The man, later identified as 37-year-old David Daniels, first told the two girls outside he was going to "supervise" their walk home from the restaurant at around 6pm.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office's Jessica Lang said Daniels "did not know these children and these children definitely did not know him," WFLA reports.

Daniels followed the girls out of the restaurant, hit one of them over the head, and proceeded to follow them, according to Lang.

She added: "Thankfully these children stuck together and rode their bikes to a nearby church and asked an adult for help."

Lang said the man followed the pre-teen girls to the church, went inside, and claimed they were his children.

Daniels also allegedly put one of the girls in a headlock, according to authorities.

A woman who wishes to remain anonymous told FOX 13 she saw suspected something unusual as the children and man approached the church.

The woman alleged Daniels hit one of the girls multiple times in the head.

The unidentified woman said: "One of the little girls was mouthing to me, 'Please help me, this is not my dad.'

She explained: "He was kind of talking over her, right behind her, putting his arm around her neck and saying something in her ear."

The woman heard the man talking over the girls, saying: "We just moved here, we just want to see how we can help do whatever you're doing."

She then called 911 when she had a chance and deputies were able to locate Daniels outside.

The woman – whose heroic actions saved the girls – insisted she doesn't need recognition for her actions.

She told FOX 13: "I don't want to be a hero. I just did what I hope anybody would do for my own kids."
