Harry ‘locked in royal mode’ as Meghan an ‘A-list celeb’ at event, expert claims
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle acted starkly different from one another as they made a red carpet appearance, a body language expert has claimed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the Salute to Freedom Gala, a military veterans event, in New York City, US, yesterday (November 10).
Meghan stunned in a plunging red dress while Harry, a special guest at the event, donned his military medals.
But while the couple held hands and stood side by side, their roles appeared starkly different.
That’s according to body language expert Judi James, who analysed a short clip of the couple arriving on the red carpet for Daily Star.
She claimed that Meghan and Harry seemingly switched from “royal” to “celebrity” in a “short space of time”.
“Harry looks locked into ‘royal’ mode here, walking the red carpet wearing a rather fixed-looking social smile and without so much as a sideways glance at the press photographers,” Judi explained.
“His attention appears to be totally focused on the veterans he is meeting and even when he appears to tread on his wife’s very large train and she eye-flashes him and even touches his arm to warn him he fails to respond, chatting royal-style instead.”
In contrast, Judi said, Meghan’s body language “is more A-list”.
“Although she also appears to ignore the photographers alongside her husband, she is more active at both ends of the walk,” she continued.
“Harry’s hand on her back is a small steering gesture as he introduces her, but then after the dress train incident she throws him some warm smiles that look subtly flirty, with her right shoulder hunched up between them, as well as placing her hand on his arm and holding his hand to register affection.”
During his speech at the event, Harry declared he is “living the American dream”.
He went on to talk about PTSD and other mental health concerns in the military, the special relationship between the UK and US and both Remembrance Day and Veterans Day.
The couple moved across the pond in early 2020 after announcing their decision to step back as senior members of the Royal Family.
They have since openly criticised the inner workings of the institution, with Meghan even alleging an instance of racism regarding the skin colour of her then-unborn baby son Archie
