Harry has ‘driven stake’ through royals’ relationship with US, historian claims

Prince Harry has severely impacted the Royal Family's relationship with Americans thanks to his TV and podcast appearances, according to historian and broadcaster Dr Tessa Dunlop.

The Sussexes’ popularity has plummeted in recent weeks after they opened up about their supposed rifts with Royal Family members as well as the struggles they faced as senior royals.

In an interview with Dax Shepard, Harry even questioned the US' First Amendment, which one royal commentator called a "serious mistake".

Dr Dunlop believes these revelations will have a lasting impact on the Firm's relations with the US.

"He's just trying to explain why he's where he's at at the moment at this curious crossroads in a foreign country with a foreign wife feeling a little bit vulnerable," she told Mailplus' Palace Confidential podcast.

"He's doing some mansplaining and a lot of people are listening because he happens to be Prince Harry, married to Meghan.

"What is the point of a Royal Family if it doesn't have a brand abroad? And when I say abroad, one of the biggest brands our Royal Family had was its popularity stateside. So if our Royal Family's only speaking now to little England, what's the point of it?"

The Daily Mail’s Saturday Diary Editor Richard Eden responded that Harry isn't "necessarily being adored around the world".

He said people are "uneasy" about Harry's "attacks" on the Royal Family.

Tessa retorted: "Oh come on, Harry's driven a stake through the royals' relationship with America. He has."

This comes after the couple spoke out against the Royal Family in their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year.

In the interview, Meghan told Oprah how she felt isolated within the Firm..

She also alleged that an unnamed senior royal made a racist remark, when she was pregnant, over the skin colour of her child.

Buckingham Palace subsequently released a statement that said "recollections may vary".
