Family’s hellish stay trapped in ‘filthy’ Pontins room that ‘stank of urine’

A disgusted family have blasted Pontins after they were given a room that 'stank' of urine even after multiple attempts to clear the smell.

Mum-of-two Rebecca Parker-Waller, 29, has vowed never to return after finding the room at the holiday park in Ainsdale, Merseyside in a 'filthy' state, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The call operator from Stoke-on-Trent is now battling for a refund after the disappointing stay earlier this month with her husband Anthony and their two sons, one eight months old and the other four years old.

The poor condition of the ground floor room allocated to them meant they had to buy their own supplies and clean it themselves on arrival.

She said a foul smell permeated through the accommodation the despite their numerous attempts to clear it.

Rebecca added that sink drain was full of grime, and this would appear again every time water was run through the sink.

The knobs on the oven were also covered in grease, and no matter how many times the family cleaned the floor they couldn't get rid of the persistent smell of urine, as well as the floor itself being damaged and the bed sheets stained.

Describing the appalling condition of the room when she arrived, Rebecca told the Echo: "It was disgusting, filthy and the mattress was filthy. It was being held together by the sheet cover.

"Having a young baby means he is going to be crawling on the floor, if we didn't have a cot I don't know where he would have crawled.

"If it wasn't for my four-year-old we would have just left. We were going out every day to get away. Everywhere was so run down and the apartments looked like they had never been cleaned."

However, because she did not fill out a "Pontins Guest Solution Form" while on site, Rebecca says the company has told her it is unable to uphold her complaint.

Ms Parker-Waller has now contacted an ombudsman as a way of getting some form of compensation.

Britannia Hotels, which runs Pontins, has been approached for comment.
