European city you’ve never heard of with one of the best Christmas markets
Romania boasts all-year-round tourist attractions and winter time is no exception with the charming city of Craiova ranked among the best Christmas markets in Europe.
The market is eye-catching for the effort given to the light displays with over a million LED bulbs used.
Spread out across for area of the city the market offers food stalls, craft workshops and an ice rink.
The celebrations spill out into Craiova’s main streets and squares.
A magnificent Christmas tree stands in front of the Town Hall in Mihai Viteazul Square, at the heart of the city, creating a central focal point.

Shakespeare Square, known as the city’s cultural hub with landmarks such as the National Theatre and the University, has white lights adorning trees, a charming carousel, and enticing street-food options.
On weekends from 6pm to 8pm, the Old Town and Fraţii Buzești Square host concerts, shows, and exhibitions.

One review left by a visitor said: “It is nice to go here during Christmas time.
“You will find an amazing Christmas market full with traditional Romanian food like nowhere else. You only need to like to eat.”
