Emergency services rush to fire with ‘explosions’ and pubs evacuated

    Multiple venues and pubs in Leeds City Centre have been evacuated after a building erupted into flames.

    The huge blaze took place near to the Hilton hotel in Leeds.

    It remains unclear when the fire began however, witnesses started reporting the alarming news just before 8pm.

    One person said: “Fire in Leeds still not under control. Looks to be spread across multiple floors of the building. Loud explosions coming from the site.”

    Another commented: "Massive fire in Leeds this eve at the old City Council building near the museum. Loads of emergency vehicles in attendance, looks awful."

    Footage online showed plumes of thick black smoke descend into the air.

    Emergency services have been pictured at the scene.

    According to an eyewitness, the fire appeared to spread across several floors of the building.

    The sound of loud explosions could also be heard from the scene.

    Pixel Bar announced that they were instructed to shut early.

    The venue said on social media: "There's a building on fire further down Great George Street that emergency services have responded to.

    “No danger to the bar, but following police advice we're closing our doors until further notice tonight and hope to be open again later this evening. Stay safe!”

    It has been reported that Millennium Square has been fully evacuated.

    The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
