Couple fuming after ‘fake’ suntan lotion leaves them ‘burnt and blistered’

A furious sunburnt British couple have issued a frantic warning to holidaymakers after they were left blistered from buying 'fake' sun cream.

Lauren Tyler posted a video on TikTok while on vacation in Thailand with her partner in which they looked like they were having the 'time of [their] lives".

But the video, which has now seen more than 41,000 times, then reveals them completely burnt all over their body.

Lauren wrote in the caption: “Imaging putting fake sun cream on a baby or child.”

Someone immediately blasted her in the comments of the video, saying: "Or maybe you didn't put enough on and reapply it".

But Lauren explained that they used a whole bottle between them and were only out for two hours, yet still got badly burnt and even had blisters on their shoulders.

Another commented saying "Two hours in direct sunlight when you are both so pale, a big mistake" but Lauren hit back saying she used factor 50.

She added: "Pale people deserve a holiday too. Honestly we have been here a week constantly applying. Buy a Thai one and this happened on the first day."

She then guessed that it was just regular lotion, but sold in a suncream bottle.

Lots of others were left stunned and shared their own stories.

Someone said: “Omg this happened to use a few weeks ago." Another person added: “Sorry this happened to you!”

Experts have explained how much and how often you should be applying sunscreen.

Dr Marko Lens, a skin cancer specialist, told The Sun Online: “The correct amount to be used is one teaspoon for the entire face and neck, and it should be re-applied every two hours if exposed to the sun.

“I always recommend SPF (sun protection factor) 30 broad-spectrum sunscreen as it provides high protection against both, UVA and UVB.

“If there is excessive sweating or if we swim we should re-apply sunscreen 40 or 80 minutes after swimming depending on if the sunscreen is water-resistant or very water-resistant.”
