Bob the Builder’s No.1 single lasted longer than Liz Truss’ mini budget disaster

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt's latest budget has ditched many of the major points of previous chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng's so-called "mini budget", marking a red-faced moment for Prime Minister Liz Truss.

Her latest gaffe sees her mini-budget paired with the same lifespan as that of a Bob the Builder UK Number One that spent three weeks at the top of the charts.

Popular children's character Bob the Builder collectively spent more time at the top of the charts with two hit singles, Can We Fix It, and a cover of Lou Bega's Mambo No 5, than Truss' budget.

Truss has since seen her mini-budget outlived by Bob the Builder, as well as a few other notably brief cultural oddities.

In an emergency budget announced today (October 17) by the Chancellor, Hunt said: "We will reverse almost all the tax measures announced in the growth plan three weeks ago that have not started parliamentary legislation."

Lasting less time than an average Watford F.C. manager, former Chancellor Kwarteng introduced the mini-budget, which was subsequently walked back just three weeks later.

David Blaine spent more time in a plastic box than the mini budget lasted.

There are more days in February than there are days where Truss' first budget was part of her economic plan.

Even the ill-fated cartoon nuisance Crazy Frog spent more time in the public eye than the most recent budget, with Axel F cementing a solid month at the top of the charts back in 2005.

For those fixated on British television, the budget lasted the same amount of time as a binge watch of every episode of Cash in the Attic.

The government may have to hope there is cash in the attic, as Chancellor Hunt confirmed the walk back of the 20p tax, saying the time is "not right" to "fund this tax cut".

Whether this latest budget will outlast that of Brian Clough's 44-day Damned United stint at Leeds, only time will tell, but it is unlikely that chart-topper Bob the Builder could have fixed this.

Daily Star are currently keeping tabs on whether or not Liz Truss will outlast a freshly purchased Tesco lettuce.
