Protesters trolled attendees arriving at the Conservative Party Conference by playing "Benny Hill music" outside the venue – leaving Tories fuming on Twitter.

Footage shared on the social media platform showed people entering the conference at The ICC Birmingham, West Midlands, on October 3.

Out of shot, a busker was heard playing the theme tune of The Benny Hill Show, which starred the comedian and actor who was well known for his slapstick humour.

While it wasn't identical, the protester still got on the nerves of some Conservatives as they claimed police were refusing to make the troll stop.

The clip gained more than 71,500 views when it was shared by journalist Tanya Gold, with the caption: "West Midlands police are refusing to shut down the Benny Hill music outside Conference and it is all I can hear."

In the replies, others shared their annoyance as one Twitter user wrote: "The police have been disgusting at this conference, where's their boss?"

Another commented: "Breach of the peace!!!!"

However, some people saw the lighter side and took it for a laugh or even encouraged the mystery busker's actions.

One user said: "It's a very fitting theme tune."

Another wrote: "Sums up what’s going on inside Conference rather aptly, don’t you think?"

West Midlands Police have been contacted by the Daily Star for a response.

The news comes after the Conservative Party accused West Midlands Police of failing to protect MPs from protesters at the conference.

Leading Tory officials have written to the force, with the letter leaked last night from Conservative party chair Jake Berry and Darren Mott, party chief executive.

They wrote: “We are writing to raise our serious concerns at the measures taken to protect delegates attending the 2022 Conservative party conference.

"Over the course of the last 24 hours, we have received reports from some of our delegates that they have faced intimidation and threats of violence from some outside the venue.”

Simon Foster, the police and crime commissioner, replied: “It is certainly the case that there have been more protesters this year than at previous conferences, and these protests have been more volatile than previously.

"This is doubtless a reflection of the heightened national political tensions. Chief constable Sir David Thompson and assistant chief constable Jane Meir have briefed policing minister Jeremy Quinn and West Midlands mayor Andy Street over the weekend, and provided assurances concerning the safety of delegates and policing of protests.

"I can report that, to date, no offences have been recorded, and the issues raised have not reached the criminal threshold. No arrests have had to be made to date.”
