Angel Lynn regaining movement after kidnapping by thug ex left her paralysed

The mother of a woman left paralysed after she was kidnapped her ex-boyfriend has revealed she is regaining movement in her left side.

Angel Lynn, 21, was left paralysed and unable to eat, walk or talk by herself thanks to brain injuries caused by the incident in September 2020 at the hands of her cruel ex Chay Bowskill.

Angel's mum Nikki was initially warned that Angel wouldn't survive the night following the accident, but she has made incredible progress and is now even re-learning how to swallow.

Mrs Lynn told BBC Radio Leicester: "She was really, really badly injured. They said she wouldn't survive the night and that she wasn't going to wake up at all. Now she's getting lots of physio. She's having speech and language therapy.

"She is communicating in little bits but she still gets really tired. It is nice that she understands everything you're saying to her."

Angel's horror injuries happened after she was forced into a van by Bowskill and his accomplice, Rocco Sansome, in Rothley, Leicestershire, after an argument.

Angel, then 19, then fell out of the vehicle while it was travelling at 60mph, driven by Sansome.

Bowskill was sentenced to seven and a half years behind bars back in January, but his sentence has since been increased to 12 years.

Meanwhile, Sansome received 21 months.

Angel's brain damage means she will need care for the rest of her life, but is slowly gaining back some of the abilities she lost following the accident.

And while she spends much of her time in hospital, Angel still comes home every day to spend time with her family.

Nikki added: "I pick her up every day and bring her home. She's doing so much better than she was and we're just so grateful for the help we've received so far.

"We've taken her to Twin Lakes and Twycross Zoo – she fed the animals and she's even helped me peg the washing out.

"Angel can write a few things down now too – but not fully. We have a white board and you have to watch what she's doing as sometimes she can write letters over the top of each other. Other days she writes as clear as anything, I'm so proud of her.

"Yesterday she even used her right leg to push against the floor, trying to move her wheelchair along.

"She's due to have an operation to straighten her left foot and maybe her right as its not been moved for a long time. Then she'll have two braces made to keep the position of the foot where its supposed to be so eventually we can get her standing."

Angel will soon have communication equipment fitted to her wheelchair, which will allow her to tap letters with her right hand – currently much more mobile with her left – to allow her to convey her thoughts and feelings to her loved ones.

She has also been allowed to lick one ice lolly a week, which has already made improvements to her swallowing – although she is still being fed through a tube in her stomach.

Although Angel has made impressive progress, her family are still adjusting to life with her new limits.

Last month they received planning permission for an extension to their house in Loughborough, including a downstairs wet room, medication and laundry room, and a hoist to transport Angel to various parts of the house.

The family set up a crowdfunding page to help with the work and have already raised more than £178k to go towards creating a more liveable environment for Angel.
