Chaos erupted in Parliament on Wednesday as MP’s voted to rip up standards rules to block the suspension of Owen Paterson who was found to have used his job to lobby for two private companies he was linked to.

Labour MP’s screamed in anger at the decision after it was revealed Prime Minister Boris Johnson intervened to bring an end to the saga.

One Labour MP could be heard shouting “what has this place come to”.

While another could be heard saying “shameful” as speaker Lindsay Hoyle announced the results of the vote.

MP’s voted 250 to 230 in favour of reviewing the MP standards rules.

A chorus of “shame, shame, shame” rang out across the packed House of Commons following the result.

Mr Hoyle then slammed Manchester Central MP Lucy Powell to “calm a minute” as he read out the rest of the script.

He hammered: “You might find it shameful but I’m in charge!”
