The Scottish government put out a tweet urging “pregnant people” to come forward for their coronavirus vaccine as they stress the jab will make the mother and child safer. But critics were perplexed at the use of the term “people” with some suggesting it “erases” women despite being done to be inclusive. GB News presenter Mark Dolan was enraged by the tweet and the Scottish government’s demands to include pronouns in correspondences and delivered a scathing rant against First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who he accuses of “denying biology”.

Ms Sturgeon called for pregnant women to come forward for their vaccines, revealing thousands already have done so and it was safe.

But later on, the Scottish government used the term “pregnant people” in a post that read: “Over 55,000 pregnant people in England & Scotland have had the #coronavirus vaccine.

“It’s the best way to protect you and your baby from the risks of the virus during pregnancy. Know how to find the right information. Speak to your healthcare professional or go to NHS Inform.”

Former Alba candidate Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh commented on the post: “You spelt ‘women’ incorrectly. Women get pregnant. Women matter. Stop trying to erase us. We won’t let you.”

GB News’ Mark Dolan also waded in on the row and said: “Now at first, all of this nonsense was exclusive to the woke Taliban on social media, then virtue signalling big businesses got involved.

“Remember when Barclays Bank said they were going to spend a lot of time working out what gender their customers are.

“There’s me thinking that you went to Barclays for a mortgage or an ISA… if your credit score isn’t high enough, your gender won’t do you any favours whatsoever.

“And now we have this strange ideology at state level, how dare any employer treat staff to participate in this gender ideology.

Alex Phillips criticises Scottish government over ‘pronoun pledge’

“By all means let people do it voluntarily and I am ultra pro-trans, with many friends who have taken that joyous and important journey.

“But denying the basic laws of biology cannot become government policy and there’s no such thing as a pregnant person.”

Mr Dolan added there was “no way” he could become pregnant before telling Ms Sturgeon she had “far bigger things to worry about”.

Figures released by the National Records of Scotland showed 1,339 people died in Scotland from drug overdoses in 2020, an increase of five percent from the previous year.

Scotland has been labelled as the “drug death capital of Europe” with the country having a drug death rate three and a half times higher than the UK as a whole and having the highest rate in Europe.

Drug deaths in Scotland have seen a steady increase each year since 1996 and saw the figure double between 2014-2019 with deaths rising 160 percent since the SNP’s 14 years in power.

The debate has also dragged in presenters who have debated whether the term “pregnant people” is offensive or not.

Kirsty Allsopp wrote on Twitter: “The last thing I would ever want is to use language that would exclude or offend anyone, but I love the word woman, and I loved having babies and “pregnant people” does feel like it takes something away from me. Do I need to just grow up/move on?”

TalkRADIO host Julia Hartley-Brewer added: “We’re called women. There aren’t any pregnant people who aren’t women. WOMEN. Use the correct word.”
