England will vote in local elections today, as Scotland and Wales put pen to ballot for national races to determine the composition of their parliaments. Although the local races in England won’t have quite the same significance, they will attract the attention of the many Brits who want a general picture of the country’s political landscape. They may want to watch the results roll in tonight much as they would during a UK-wide general election.

Can you watch election results come in tonight?

General election nights dominate tv broadcasts in the UK as the country awaits its next Prime Minister.

Coverage of local, regional and national elections in the devolved nations falls to various news organisations at different levels.

But it won’t be quite the same as during a general election.

Polls opened today at 7am and will remain so until tonight at 10pm.

Polling staff start counting results tomorrow at 7am due to Covid precautions, and they likely won’t finish before Saturday.

Instead of declaring results within a day during a general election, they could stagger into next week.

Regardless, some channels have dedicated themselves to coverage until results come in.

The BBC is running a special Election 2021 results programme, starting tomorrow at 9am.

Coverage will continue until 10pm on both the BBC News Channel and BBC iPlayer.

BBC Two and BBC One will also cover the polls in the morning and afternoon.

The programming schedule will continue over the weekend, from 1.15 to 10pm on the BBC News Channel.

Broadcasting starts at 12pm on Friday and will last until results come in.

Welsh viewers can count on similar dedicated coverage via BBC One Wales.

The channel starts its specialised broadcast at 1.30pm on Friday.

Anyone looking for further analysis can turn to their local news organisations, which will report results online as they come.
