China's Xiaomi files legal complaint against U.S. Defense, Treasury over ban

SHANGHAI (Reuters) – Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Corp, which was placed on a Pentagon list of banned companies by the previous U.S. administration of Donald Trump, on Friday filed a legal complaint against the U.S. Departments of Defense and Treasury, public court records showed.

The Trump administration in mid-January placed Xiaomi and eight other companies on a list of firms with alleged ties to China’s military, which would force American investors to divest their holdings in the firms by a set deadline.

At the time, Xiaomi said it “is not owned, controlled or affiliated with the Chinese military” and would take an appropriate course of action in response.
