The Tesla boss had vowed to send a satellite into space in 2022, paid for entirely with Dogecoin. Mr Musk’s dreams of achieving the first crypto-funded space mission have now been shattered. His Doge-1 rocket mission was beaten to it by the Dogebonk launch on December 15. The Dogebonk event is trending on Twitter under the #SorryElon hashtag.

The Dogebonk launch was partially paid for with the DOBO cryptocurrency.

Yesterday one of the Dogebonk developers tweeted: “Sorry Elon, but we beat Dogecoin as the first memecoin in space.

“Watch us prove it tomorrow on our stream.”

A Dogebonk community member followed up this tweet by stating, “Sorry Elon, looks like the BonkSquad has you beat.

“DogeBonk is the first crypto in space.

“Ain’t too late to join us though, truce?”

Using a stratospheric weather balloon, the Dogebonk community launched their memecoin to the edge of space where it floated for hours.

The memecoin’s launch was accompanied by an onboard camera that filmed a banner showing the Dongbonk meme “bonking” a Dogecoin symbol, in the background can be seen Eon Musk weeping.

Behind the banner, that is floating at the edge of space, can be seen the curvature of the earth, the blue atmosphere of our planet, and the sun shining and surrounded by deep space.

The Dogebonk community have placed many advertisements in major cities in a “memecoin war” against other cryptocurrencies, such as Shiba Inu and Floki.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, one of the Dogebonk developers said: “We were planning to have a much brighter meme-like carriage advert on the underground.

“But after Floki’s adverts gained so many complaints, approval became impossible.

Referring to the plan to launch a crypto-funded space mission, in April of this year, Elon Musk tweeted, “SpaceX is going to put a literal Dogecoin on the literal moon.”

The SpaceX vice president Tom Ochinero added to this and said, “we’re excited to launch DOGE-1 to the Moon!”

The DOGE-1 mission has plans to include a CubeSat that is meant to acquire “lunar-spatial intelligence” using onboard cameras and sensors.

The mission is planned to be paid for in Dogecoin, however, its novelty has now been shattered by the recent challenge from the Dogebonk community.
