Autonomy Network to Introduce Live Non-Playable Characters (NPC) in the Metaverse

Metaverse is more than hot air, as skeptics say. There is optimism, especially on the permanence associated with this new technology.

Whether it will be a tectonic technological development that will permanently shape people’s lives as the internet and mobile did is yet to be seen.

For what’s there, like blockchain did from 2018, the Metaverse has been used in investor presentations more than 128 times. In December 2021, Mark Zuckerberg dropped the term “metaverse” 18 times in his founder’s letter.

Autonomy Network Focus on Non-Playable Characters (NPC)

As the train chugs on, it is abundantly clear that the future, what’s dubbed the new internet, is being built.

Meanwhile, it is notable that the Metaverse will need non-playable characters (NPC), a solution that Autonomy Network plans to release. Through NPCs, game developers will be at liberty to explore further, helping accelerate the development of metaverse gaming.

Autonomy Network is an authority in the blockchain, finding backing from ConsenSys—the developer of Ethereum—and Protocol Labs. In an era where the benefits of blockchain and how it can be applied to enhance products, services, or systems’ efficiency, the Autonomy Network team’s goal is to build the base for blockchain, driving adoption.

Automating Character Construction

While the rise of DeFi and play-to-earn gaming models is because of blockchain’s distribution, the Autonomy Network team focuses on NPCs. NPCs are non-playable characters intentionally inserted in a game by developers, bearing special personalities, voices, or even dialog.

Static as NPC usually are, they are critical and are part of the game. However, creating these NPCs is time-consuming, and the Autonomy Network is finding a niche to automate the process despite technical challenges deploying them.

Livening Up the Metaverse

While it is easy to insert NPCs in games launching on centralized systems, inserting them in dynamic blockchain systems present challenges. The Autonomy Network team notes that there is a possibility of NPCs becoming static and reactionary to the gamer. To overcome this challenge, the development team will introduce “alive” NPCs, or aNPCs, which are interoperable between games.

Further development of the metaverse and blockchain gaming would see aNPCs find traction for an immersive gaming experience. Furthermore, the interoperability of aNPCs would draw even more gamers and developers. The resulting network effect would be the basis for further development, extending the capability of the Metaverse.
