ONE of the UK's biggest Christmas markets is being boycotted over a "ridiculous" beer rule, with critics branding it "over-priced rubbish".
Locals are planning a backlash against Birmingham's German-themed festive fair after new rules on alcohol were announced.
Frankfurt Christmas Market stalls have appeared in the West Midlands city ahead of the market opening next week.
But people looking forward to knocking back steins of weissbier have been given a warning.
Signs say bars and stalls will only serve "one drink per person", as well as insisting on proof the customer is over 25.

The signs read: "One drink per person. We ask for your understanding that we are only allowed to sell one alcoholic drink per person."
Pints of German beer at the market last year cost £6.50.
Angry locals have vented their frustration on learning of the new rule, posting in response to a Birmingham Mail report.
Another said they would "rather stay in the warm and have a few with a takeaway and film", adding: "Over-rated rubbish in the freezing cold."

A critic suggested: "Surely this will just make the ever-long queues bigger and cause more chaos."
There were also calls for people to "Boycott over-priced rubbish" or instead celebrate "the quality produce from across the region".
Birmingham's version is said to be the largest authentic German Christmas market outside that country.
Festive-themed stalls, rides and other attractions stretch across the city for more than 1km, since the event was first staged there in 2001.
As well as beer and mulled wine, typical German food fare such as bratwurst, pretzels and schnitzel will be on offer.
The free-to-enter event is due to run from November 2 to Christmas Eve.
It has featured in a guide to the best Christmas markets across the UK this winter, also showcasing London, Cardiff and Edinburgh among others.
A time-warp Christmas market where locals dress as Victorians is taking place in Warwickshire – though lasting just four days.
Best-value options across Europe have also been recommended.
