New England states famed for their dazzling fall displays – New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont, put on a typically-brilliant show, with their forests a mass of red, yellow and orange, as well as the odd green tree that’s yet to change color.
Newfoundland in Canada saw similarly striking fall shades.
Further west, Utah’s countryside put on its own unique display. Much of the western state has already seen snowfall, with the landscapes painted an eerie orange, white and purple by the change in seasons.
Snowbasin Ski Resort’s colors – including the aforementioned purple – saw its display likened to a packet of Skittles candy, with the hills outside Salt Lake City also showcasing their incredible autumnal beauty.
On the east coast, the mesmerizing change in colors typically begins on the last week of September into the first week of October, when the lush green foliage of the summer begins to fade and be replaced by hues of red, yellow and orange.
By October, the colors of the leaves become more vibrant until they reach their peak brightness.

As of October 13, Maine Forest Rangers in northern Maine have reported past-peak conditions, meaning leaves have started to go brown, with moderate leaf drop.
‘The entire state of Maine is ablaze with color for this upcoming weekend, but with plenty of green in the oaks along the immediate coast to create an amazing contrast,’ said Gale Ross, fall foliage spokesperson.
‘I like to call this ‘Maine’s weekend.’ With the long holiday weekend behind us, you can take those long leisurely drives, hikes, and bike rides throughout the state and find less traffic to view the colors of fall.’
The rest of the states progression of color will start occurring from north to south in mid-October. Coastal Maine typically reaches peak conditions mid-to-late October.
