A van exploded into a horrifying fireball on the motorway today, sparking rush hour chaos for commuters during rush hour.
Traffic came to a stop on the M25 clockwise in Sevenoaks, Kent around 8am this morning after a vehicle erupted into flames between Junction 5 and 6.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and crews extinguished the blaze using hose reel jets and compressed air foam, Kent Fire & Rescue Service confirmed.
No one was injured in the fire and the van has been recovered. The National Highways Service says the road surface did suffer ‘substantial damage’.
The motorway has reopened, but crews remain at the scene and are working to clear the road. Drivers should expect significant delays.

The incident has caused major delays along the M25 as traffic remains congested for six miles in both directions.
A National Highways spokesperson said drivers heading clockwise should expect delays of up to 60 minutes. Those heading anti-clockwise are battling 45 minute delays.
Authorities expect disruptions to continue for at least another hour and have encouraged motorists to take alternative routes.
Lane 1 and 2 of the M25 will be closed throughout the day as emergency services work the scene. Lane 1, 2, and 3 will be closed overnight to be resurfaced.
