Two men ‘pistol-whipped cops in prison break attempt to help British prisoner’
Two men pistol-whipped Spanish police officials while attempting to help a "British prisoner" break out from prison.
Ibiza may be known for its partying and booze cruises but for two men yesterday (Monday, October 9), appearing at a private dental surgery, it spelled out a great escape. An unidentified Brit prisoner attempted to flee on foot as the accomplices were wrestled to the ground.
A black 4×4 was spotted in the area and believed to have been used to transport the prisoner, who was recaptured after trying to run off. He was seen sprinting away "with handcuffs on just one wrist."

Witnesses have since described the incident as "something out of a film", while another told local press a masked man had pulled a gun on police. He used the weapon to allegedly pistol whip the officer.
The Civil Guard confirmed weapons were used but a police source added: "One of the officers was assaulted with what would appear to be a pistol but until arrests are made and the weapon seized, we won’t be in a position to determine if it was real or fake."
No comment has yet been made on whether the prisoner is a British national. The nationality of the prisoner is currently being investigated by Spain's National High Court, the Audiencia Nacional court in Madrid.
A spokesman for the Civil Guard, one of two major police forces in Ibiza which is involved in the ongoing manhunt, said today: "I can confirm we are still hunting for two men who tried to help a prisoner escape yesterday in Ibiza Town following a visit to a dentist.
"He was being walked from the dental surgery to a police van when the officers were confronted. The officers managed to resist the attack and the two assailants escaped in a dark-coloured vehicle. The prisoner remains in custody after the attempt to free him failed."
Another source confirmed "none of the officers were injured" while again saying they were not yet in a position to comment on the nationality of the escapee.
Police operations are now focusing on blocking the unnamed assailants from leaving Ibiza. The escaped prisoner, now recaptured, is set to be taken back to Ibiza Penitentiary Centre.
