Two bodies recovered in Lake Pueblo after boat capsized over Memorial Day weekend – The Denver Post
After a boat capsized Sunday evening, Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Marine Evidence Recovery Team found another body during an overnight search in Lake Pueblo State Park, according to state officials.
A person went missing over Memorial Day weekend when a boat with 13 people on board capsized due to high winds.
“Our MERT team worked all night and around 5:45 a.m. we located a victim in 107 feet of water,” said Joe Stadterman, park manager at Lake Pueblo and MERT team member, in a Tuesday press release.
Upon receiving a call for help after 7:30 p.m. Sunday, rangers rescued eight children and three adults by boat. They also found the remains of a woman who “apparently drowned,” the press release reports.
The body recovered early Tuesday along the state park’s north shore was brought to the Pueblo County Coroner’s office for identification and cause of death. If a drowning is confirmed, it will count as the eighth in the state this year.
“This is a tragic loss of life,” Stadterman said. “And it underscores the importance of being extremely careful around the water. If you are on or even near the water, we strongly urge you to wear a life jacket.”
