Trump SUSPENDED from Facebook for 2 years after Oversight Board ruling in the wake of Capitol riot

DONALD Trump has been suspended from Facebook for two years following remarks he made in the wake of Capitol riots in January.

The ruling was made by the social media platform's independent oversight board on Friday morning, banning Trump until at least January 7, 2023.

Facebook said it would only reinstate Trump if "the risk to public safety has receded."

"We will evaluate external factors, including instances of violence, restrictions on peaceful assembly and other markers of civil unrest," the company wrote in a statement.

"If we determine that there is still a serious risk to public safety, we will extend the restriction for a set period of time and continue to re-evaluate until that risk has receded."

Trump was first suspended from Facebook in January over concerns that his posts about the insurrection in DC were inciting violence.

It was the first time Facebook had blocked a current president, prime minister or head of state.

Facebook's oversight board in May upheld the ban, but gave itself six months to determine specifically how long Trump would be blacklisted.

"Given the gravity of the circumstances that led to Mr. Trump's suspension, we believe his actions constituted a severe violation of our rules which merit the highest penalty available under the new enforcement protocols," Facebook said.

Trump has not yet responded to the ruiling.
