A diner was horrified when she ordered a Toby Carvery roast to her door – only for it to turn up looking like "a dog's dinner."

Nicki White had hoped to tuck into a delicious Sunday lunch at home as she'd been poorly so she ordered a Toby from the branch in Ramsgate, Kent, when it was delivered by Just Eat.

She paid £17 for one adult portion and one child portion.

But when she opened the bundle of supposed goodies, she claims she received a few measly scraps – with undercooked vegetables and a few small, dried pieces of meat.

The gutted punter has complained to the company and said that despite Toby's being one of her favourite trips, especially at Christmas, she will never go again.

Nicki, 26, said: "It was undercooked, the portion was small, it was just unsatisfactory.

"Putting it simply, it was the worst roast I have ever eaten.

"I would normally go to the restaurant, but because I wasn't feeling well my daughter wanted a roast so I thought I would give it a go. Never again."

Nicki, who lives in Ramsgate, posted snaps of her disappointing dinner to Facebook on Sunday, September 12.

She said: "If anyone's thinking of getting a Toby Carvery delivered. Don't do it! Absolute rip off!

"Undercooked veg, black cauliflower, hardly any meat, the gravy was like water, the stuffing was wet and mushy.

"I pre-ordered 2 hours before and was still late, a driver turned up to collect but wasn't ready so he left and had to send another driver. Will never order a takeaway from them again."

Others said they couldn't believe the poor quality as they had always had brilliant meals there.

One local said: "That's why I don't go there, let alone take away! The number of microwaves in that place is shocking!"

One said: "I've had quite a poor take away too before – so I didn't bother again."

Another added: "Had the same problem. Make a formal complaint to them."

And another added: "Yes we ordered today too and had a similar experience. They even forgot our pigs in blankets."

One who spotted Nicki's post joked: "Good grief that looks ghastly," to which Nicki replied: "I honestly think my dog could have cooked better."

Toby's, Britain's biggest roast chain with 1,158 outlets, prides itself on offering huge roast dinners for a bargain price.

Nicki has complained and the chain – owned by Mitchells & Butlers – is investigating.

A spokesperson said: "We pride ourselves on our delicious great value roast dinners, so we are very disappointed that one of our valued customers received a delivery meal that doesn't reflect our high standards on this occasion.

"We have raised this with our internal teams to investigate and we have reached out to the customer to apologise and invite her to have a meal on us."
