Suspected serial killer spoke at victim’s funeral days after slitting his throat

A man who confessed to slitting a man's throat before burning down his house and "sacrificing" three others spoke at his victim's funeral days after the twisted killings.

Jason Thornburg, 41, is a former street pastor and bible expert who described his late roommate as a "good friend".

Mark Jewell died in a fire in May in Fort Worth, Texas – with Thornburg thought lucky to have escaped the flames, reported the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The reality was quite different.

Thornburg admitted to slitting Mark's throat and burning the house down.

Then he confessed to three more murders at a nearby motel, chopping up the bodies and leaving them in a skip.

And Thornburg wasn't done: he also said he "sacrificed" girlfriend Tanya Begay in New Mexico.

Tanya went missing in 2017, with no traces of her body found.

Thornburg's three victims at the motel in Euless, north Texas are said to be one man and two women.

One was named by authorities as David Lueras, 42, who had been staying with him.

The medical examiner's office is yet to name the women.

A life coach and inspirational speaker who attended Jewell's funeral said he offered a 'grieving' Thornburg a place at a local retreat.

Scott Black told the Star-Telegram they struck up a friendship.

Scott said: “I told him there was a reason he wasn’t there that day. I prayed with him.

“I feel like an idiot."

Mr Black said he felt Thornburg was fighting a "darkness" within him, but had no idea it was so twisted.

The coach even talked to his wife about offering Thornburg a place to live in his home.

Luckily, his wife poured cold water on the idea.

Scott added: “My wife was the one who said she would not feel comfortable with him living with us for some time.
